google search bar
Whether you're using a Mac, Windows or Linux computer, you've likely noticed this bar in your web browser.

If you're reading this, then you have a web browser open right now. Up in the top right corner of it there is the ubiquitous search bar, sitting there, waiting to find you all sorts of interesting things around the web. All you have to do is tell it your heart's desire and it endeavors to deliver the goods.

When you search Google, you get pretty much everything there is, but often the top results aren't exactly what you're looking for. You could spend more time refining your search query, or try searches at specific websites that you're pretty sure might have the answer. But there's a quicker way to refer to the sites that you commonly visit.

Click on the search bar to refine your options.

Many people don't realise that this search bar is an easily customised tool that can actually be optimised to help you find what you're looking for much faster. Let's face it, the web is kind of big and Google is good, but sometimes you don't need to search the whole of it all.

By clicking on the side of the search box, you can refine your query. In Firefox, it comes standard with options such as Creative Commons, Delicious, Amazon and so forth. Internet Explorer 7 comes a bit more limited, but as you'll soon see, you can add more options rather easily.

Add Teacher Support Network's InfoCentre to your browser's search sites

As you likely noticed in the image at right, your search options probably don't currently include the Teacher Support Network InfoCentre. But you can easily add it. Either go to this page here (or use the framed version of it below) and click on "Teacher Support Network InfoCentre."

the site will ask you if you want to install the extension and if you want to make it active immediately. Once you approve the add-on, you'll instantly be able to search our entire library of Factsheets for teachers whenever you want from within your browser.

Teachers Building Society has joined forces with the national charity for teachers, Teacher Support Network to offer you this unique savings account. Click here to find out more.
