“It is with great regret that the National Union of Teachers announces the recent death of Max Morris who died at the age of 95 on Wednesday 27 August 2008. Max, who was elected President of the NUT in 1973, was, in his day, a leading figure on the education stage. It is to his leadership that the NUT owes its ongoing campaign to win comprehensive education for all children.
“In the many years since his Presidency, Max Morris remained a campaigner for a good local school for every child. He will be much missed by the very many NUT members and others to whom he was known as a cogent and at times flamboyant campaigner.
“At the request of his wife Margaret donations in Max’s memory may be made to the Teacher Support Network.”
Patrick Nash, Chief Executive of Teacher Support Network said:
“Max Morris was a great President of the NUT and a good friend to Teacher Support Network and the Teacher’s Benevolent Fund before that. He’ll be greatly missed. We are very grateful to his wife Margaret for asking for donations to Teacher Support Network in his memory. This will enable us to provide vital support to those who need it within the teaching profession.”
