School leaders are faced with many different challenges on a day-to-day basis. The demands they face are growing and their needs are unique. If you're in such a role, then our new section of our website will be of interest to you.

We have created a new guide to help school leaders look after their own wellbeing and work-life balance even as they tend to the needs of their staff.

Lead by Example is our comprehensive guide for school leaders. Here you can find guides on the following:

You can also take our assessment quiz, Lead By Example: A Tool For School Leaders, and get an idea about which area you might want to focus on.

To use the tool simply click here and then follow the instructions. You'll be answering multiple choice questions in two sections, 'Wellbeing for Leaders' and 'Leading Wellbeing'. At the end of each section you'll be given a score of low, medium or high along with some useful ideas and information.

'Lead by Example' should only take around 10 minutes to complete online. This is not a clinical tool and if you have any symptoms or concerns about your physical or mental health, you should always consult with your G.P.

school leaderWe would not have been able to develop this guide if it was not for the friends and families of Graham Hollows who have kindly funded it. Graham was the headteacher at Stoke Mandeville Combined School when he sadly passed away in November 2009. This guide is a memorial to him.

We named this guide Lead By Example, because that's what we hope school leaders will do. Avoiding stress, working proper hours, getting a good night's sleep and working in a safe, positive environment isn't just for staff. It's for managers as well. We hope you'll find the guide and assessment tool helpful in improving your own work-life balance and overall sense of wellbeing, and that it helps you develop strategies for your staff to benefit as well.
