It started with an accusation from a child with a history of disruptive behaviour. That led to me receiving a suspended jail sentence for assault.
This is where my career might have ended if it had not been for the support and encouragement of my family, friends and fellow teachers.
First my conviction was overturned on appeal. Then a new inquiry found no credible evidence against me. Finally, after 18 months suspended from work, I was allowed to return to my school and my children.
Without the colleagues in my school, my union, and in the Teacher Support Network who supported me so loyally, I don’t know how I would have got through those 18 months of hell.
That’s one reason why, after my ordeal, I got actively involved in the Teacher Support Network – and became Chair of Teacher Support Cymru. It seemed a good way to repay some of the help I had received from my colleagues.
Teacher Support Network need your support at a very testing time.
Every year, thousands of colleagues phone or email the charity with problems of every kind. Some callers may simply need a little professional guidance to help them do a better job. Others are desperate – occasionally even suicidal – because their problems have got completely out of hand.
You and I both know what a demanding profession teaching can be. Every day teachers face their own difficulties and crises, large and small. That is why the Teacher Support Network is needed every day.
To lose it would be unthinkable – yet raising the money we need for this support is a constant struggle.
Please could you spare a donation today to help our vital work continue?
