Harry Potter author J.K Rowling has been voted the ‘perfect female teacher’ by students in a recent poll.

In the survey, conducted by YouGov, students also voted Rowling’s creation, Hogwarts Headmaster Albus Dumbledore as the perfect male teacher. The Edinburgh based author won with two fifths of the vote, with Miss Honey, the teacher from Roald Dahl’s Matilda coming in second with 26 per cent and Cheryl Cole third with 25 per cent, The Scotsman reports.

Parents who took part in the survey had a slightly different opinion, opting for Carol Vorderman (48 per cent) and Stephen Fry (40 per cent) as the ideal candidates to teach their offspring. Many parents also believed Yoda from Star Wars, naturalist Sir David Attenborough and actress Dame Helen Mirren would be suitable, along with J.K. Rowling, who came third with 31 per cent in the adult vote.

J.K Rowling’s Harry Potter series is regarded as the most successful work of fiction of all time. As of June 2011, the series had sold over 450 million books and was widely praised for improving the reading habits of children and adults worldwide.
