MP TABLES MOTION FOR NATIONAL TEACHERS’ DAYby Jason Harrison : 29 July 2010Lorely Burt MP has tabled an early day motion calling for a National Teachers' Day to celebrate the 'tremendous work' that teachers do. The MP for Solihull suggested the idea after attending a recent Hindu Teachers' Day event. "As I watched the performances, I felt a sense of loss that we rarely honour our teachers in British mainstream education" explained Ms. Burt. "Teachers deserve our gratitude and respect and having their own day may help to restore them to their rightful place: as valued professionals." Early Day Motions are formal motions submitted for debate in the House of Commons. Many are not actually debated, but are used to demonstrate the views of individual MPs or to demonstrate the extent of parliamentary support for a particular cause or point of view.
