“You can’t just expect teachers to do it. They need support and guidance too.”

Why did you want to run the London Marathon ?

I've always been active and I've always wanted to run the London Marathon. I think it's the biggest challenge a person can do and I like pushing myself to the limit.

Why did you want to run for Teacher Support Cymru?

One of your trustees told me you were looking for runners and everything just fell into place.

Teaching is such a big job. We appreciate the different issues and troubles that children have, but we don't think about those people dealing with the children. We can't just expect teachers to do it. They need support and guidance as they have their own issues too.

How is the training going?

Training is good. I run four or five times a week and once every Sunday. My longest run has been 19 miles.

Have you told school about what you are doing?

I'm a qualified PE teacher and I'm working as a supply teacher until I find a permanent position.

I've spoken to the students about the marathon and they were shocked about how far it was. I was teaching cross country and they had to run 2 miles. I told them I had to do that 13 times for the marathon. They said 'Sir, there is no way they can do that!" It's a big challenge, but they are very important.
