“The whole school is helping me fundraise!”

6 April 2011

Why did you want to run the London Marathon ?

I've always watched the London Marathon on TV and never thought I could run it. I started running a few years ago and have run a 10k, but then I decided to try for the London Marathon.

Why did you want to run for Teacher Support Network?

I had tried to get a place for a few years and had no success. Then one of the staff at work emailed me that Teacher Support Network were looking for runners and so I contacted them and got a place!

I've been teaching for 6 years, so Teacher Support Network is the natural charity to run for. It is great to be running on behalf of a cause that is so linked to my job.

How is the training going?

It is fine. I just ran a 20 mile road race, which was the furthest so far and I was fine. I do have a bit of an ankle problem, but I ran the Derby 10k and it was ok, so I'm sure I will be able to finish.

Have you told school about what you are doing?

I teach Year 6 at Gayton Junior School and the whole school has been helping me fundraise. Everyone is helping me fundraise; the other teachers and the headteacher have been really supportive. All the parents sponsored me at parents evening.

I coach the athletics team, so the children are really behind me. The other day, we had a film night and the children paid for tickets to come and watch.
