Help and advice on finding that perfect job

by Lucy Rowe : 9 December 2009

The difficulties that new teachers are currently experiencing in finding a job were highlighted in a BBC report recently.

According to figures from a Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) survey, just 25 per cent of secondary teachers and 45 per cent of primary teachers who qualified in 2008 have found permanent posts. 13,000 new teachers who were surveyed in total.

It is thought that more new teachers taking temporary or supply work as a result of school closures and mergers.

The figures demonstrate big regional variations, with only 33 per cent of newly-trained primary teachers finding permanent work in the North East compared to 73 per cent in London.

Calls to our Support Line in the last year indicate that this is an area of concern, with ‘Careers’ being the most popular call issue category for NQTs.
