Workload tops teachers’ worries

by Jason Harrison : 10 June 2011

Workload is the biggest cause for worry amongst teachers, figures from our latest poll reveal.

We asked teachers what they worry about after it was disclosed last week that adults spend 18 months after their lives worrying. 44 per cent of those that responded to our e-newsletter Quick Poll said that workload was their biggest problem.

"Wish I had chosen another career path years ago. Too much stress in this one and detrimental to health and wellbeing. Difficult to get work-life balance right" explained one respondent for their choice. "Workload always an issue, would love to own my weekends" said another.

Money was also a common worry, with job security, getting old, being stuck in a rut, being out of shape and inspections also causing concern.

"I expected that by the time I reached the age that I am I would have some spare cash, but this isn't the case" read one comment. "Full of good intentions to trim up? The road to Hell is paved…" added another.

Last month, 96 per cent of those that responded to our poll agreed that their health and wellbeing had been affected by their workload.
