Help us tell MPs what teachers need to better manage classroom discipline

By Jason Harrison

sparing the rod - builing a broad coalition to improve school discipline We want teachers to film themselves answering a few questions on behaviour. The video will then be used at our fringe event on behaviour at the Conservative Party Conference in October as well as on our website and Youtube page.

Tips for filming:

    • Ask a friend or colleague to film you on a video camera or mobile phone answering the Teacher Support Network Behaviour questions.
    • The shot should be close enough to include your head and torso and a hint of the background.
    • The background should reflect what you do i.e. teachers should be in a classroom.
    • Try to avoid any background noise
    • Avoid any advertising or other people in the background. (although you may want to include a school logo)
    • Ask the person filming you to ask the questions. When they have finished asking each question, you should respond.
    • Be sure to follow the questions in order. This will help us with editing later

After filming:

how should we handle pupil behaviour?

Teacher Support Network Behaviour questions:

  • Can you introduce yourself?
  • How would you describe behaviour in schools today?
  • Who should teach children and young people how to behave?
  • Who is responsible for discipline? Why?
  • Are you worried about behaviour in schools? Why?
  • What should the government / MPs do to improve behaviour?
  • What is good behaviour?
  • What is bad behaviour?
  • How do you feel when you see a pupil misbehave?
  • Who should reward good behaviour? How?
  • How should teachers deal with bad behaviour?
  • Should teachers be allowed to refuse to teach unruly / badly behaved children?
  • Should parents be punished if children misbehave?
  • Does pupil's behaviour relate to the subject being taught?
  • For children only: who tells you how to behave?
  • For children only: How do you feel when others misbehave in class?
  • What makes a teacher great?
  • What's your marathon?
