HIGHEST RECORDED PASS RATE FOR SCOTTISH STUDENTS

Helen Mc Clymont

A new record pass rate has been set for the results of Higher grade exams by Scottish students this year, with the already strong record of achievement in Standard Grades remaining unchanged.

More than 160,000 pupils received their exam results by post on 5 August 2010 and around 35,000 students also signed up for the 'My SQA' service and received their results via text message or e-mail on 4th August 2010 according to the Scottish Government website.

Speaking ahead of a visit to Skills Development Scotland, where they run the National Exam helpline, Education Secretary Michael Russell said that the high level of attainment confirms the strengths of the Scottish education system.

"I'd like to convey my congratulations to students, teachers and parents for their achievements. The arrival of exam results is an exciting but often daunting time in any young person's life" Russell added "The national exam helpline ensures every student has the right support regardless of their results."
