Grant for a retired teacher
Rose (not her real name) is a 77 year old retired teacher, who taught for 29 years. She has previously received a regular grant from us due to her low income and now receives this from another charity.
Rose suffers from diabetes and problems with her blood pressure and has also recently undergone eye surgery. Rose also has mobility problems and needs a walking stick to get around. She is prone to falls and has previously fallen in the bath which is of great concern to her, as she lives alone and has no family. Rose heard about Teacher Support Cymru from another retired teacher who helped Rose to write an application form to the Grants and Loans team. Rose requested assistance to purchase a walk-in shower – her request was supported by a report from an Occupational Therapist and two estimates. Rose met all of our criteria in applying for a grant: she was a fully qualified teacher, has less than £6,000 savings and was able to supply all the supporting documentation. Within fours weeks of applying for the grant, Rose received some very good news. Teacher Support Cymru awarded Rose a one-off grant of £2,500 towards the purchase and fitting of a walk-in shower. Rose sent us a thank you letter stating that “…Teacher Support Cymru’s help was very much appreciated and I am looking forward to being able to shower in safety.”
